Carolyn + Kyle’s Modern Summer Wedding at ONE Cannery Row
One Cannery Row Wedding Photos
I knew I would have a hard time putting together my thoughts about Carolyn + Kyle’s wedding from the first day we met them… for the very best reason.
Because this was such a good, good day.
And Carolyn + Kyle are such good, good people.
The first time we FaceTimed with Carolyn and Kyle to talk about shooting their wedding, we just instantly clicked. And for us that’s extra exciting, but I’m guessing Carolyn + Kyle make a lot of people feel that way the first time they talk to them. They both have the most contagious smile. The most genuine care for others. The most positive way of speaking. When you’re with Carolyn + Kyle, they are focused on you. Present. Engaged. Joyful. Thoughtful. And the way they look at each other… Oof. Friends, they never stop grinning at each other. And they didn’t stop grinning at each other their entire wedding day.
My favorite pictures from Carolyn + Kyle’s wedding day are the black and white candids. The ones of them laughing and high fiveing and dancing and crying. Kneeling down to greet their guests at their tables. Putting their arms around the ones they love. Because that’s just so in character for them. In the end, I think we watched them get the most joy out of loving on their people on their wedding day. Putting on an amazing event (designed and planned by the incredible Kristin Gifford) to say thank you for being here all this time. And thankfully, it seems like they’re surrounded by some pretty wonderful people who have pretty awesome marriages… So many wonderful people to learn from.
But the best part about a wedding like this (I think) is that each of those couples can also learn something from Carolyn + Kyle. Theirs is the kind of love that just illuminates everything and everyone around them. Every couple present at their union – no matter how long they’ve been partnered – can look at a couple like Carolyn + Kyle and remember that feeling. That “wow, I can’t believe I get to marry you today” feeling.
Why? Here’s why:
“Love is not breathlessness; It is not excitement; It is not the promulgation of promises of eternal passion. That is just being “in love”, which any of us can convince ourselves we are. Love itself is what is left over when being in love has burned away, and this is both an art and a fortunate accident.” – Louis de Bernières
